According to DC comics, Batman is currently the best selling comic as of last year. The caped crusader sold 50 million comics world wide, that's more than 2nd place One Piece's 35 million(Japanese Comic) and more than twice than Superman, which sold 13 million last year. Any suggestions as to why Batman is doing as well as he is doing? And is it me, or is more people wearing the Bat logo now a days? Why do you think Batman is the hottest selling comic right now?
It's not just the success of the current film series. People watch movies all the time without going the extra mile to check out the sources. However, DC has gone a long way to change public perception of the caped crusader since the tongue-in-cheek show from the 1960s did for Batman what the Keystone Kops did for police everywhere (namely made him a laughing stock). Mind you, not even DC took him seriously back then- he was just a tool for selling stuff to kids.
Then came the series that began with Micheal Keaton in the starring role. At first it seemed designed to show viewers the Batman that comics fans knew and loved, the detective/hero with the skills of Bruce Lee and the mind of Sherlock Holmes. With the second film, however, the elements of camp from the 60s show began creeping back in, and by the third Batman was a joke again.
Then the animated adventures showed the true face of Batman, followed by the Justice League, and then yet another worthy cartoon. This stuff primed a new generation for more, and they got it in spades. The current series of films draws heavily from serious, serious Batman comics lore, including an alternative version of the Joker's origin that I, for one, never thought to see again. Of course, the origin of the Joker is the origin of that chilling smile of his.
In the final analysis, though, credit for his popularity belongs with the amazing talents that have worked the comics themselves. The writers of the Batman comics- at least four titles prior to the reboot, not counting spinoffs- have worked long and hard to craft a new path for the dark night detective, and the art has been top notch throughout. That's why nothing changed in those titles for the latest reboot of the DC universe. Too much work has gone into getting where they are now for them to just begin again.
So the answer is talent, hard work, careful planning and judgment.
Face it, there just aint ain't no easy path to glory.
Probabally due to the huge success of Christopher nolan's depiction of the batman. Prior to his launch of the batman film trilogy, most noncomic enthusiasts viewed batman as a fantasy tale with a corny motif of justice that DC monotonously put into all it's comics, ie the comic book topic stereotype. That also combined with the medicare batman films launched in the past. Nolans take on batman portrayed the story of Bruce Wayne as a complex tale of a man's loss, journey, growth, and actualization of his will to make things better when no one else could along with all the struggles that came with this dream. Thus sparking an insane intrest in the batman among people. Why do you think Batman is the hottest selling comic right now?
Because since he has no powers, he is much easier to relate to. Usually, his enemies are much more powerful than him and he actually has to try unlike superman who can take pretty much any villain out with one punch. Also he is a pimp and a major badass, unlike superman and spiderman who are nerdy as hell. Why would a nerd ever read a comic about a fellow nerd ?
Most likely it's all the movies that make him seem even more like a BA.Why do you think Batman is the hottest selling comic right now?
Maybe it's because a lot of kid like batman
cuz hes badass...let go to the bathroom
